1 Description

Wednesday April 8, 2015, at 12:00 noon, SciNet will hold a SciNet User Group Meeting.

SciNet User Groups Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at the SciNet Headquarters at noon, and involve a TechTalk, user discussion and free pizza!

This month's TechTalk will be :

Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics: Applications to Astrophysical Simulations
by Marcelo Ponce
In this talk I'm planning to review the main concepts used in "Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics", a technique widely used for simulating fluid dynamics. In particular I will focus in the basic concepts and their applications to astrophysical simulations, such as, the effects on accretion disks surrounding a gravitational recoiled black hole, and "merger-burst" events where the interaction between stars may trigger luminosity outburst (such as the outburst of V838 Monocerotis observed some years ago).

Date and time: Wednesday April 8, 2015, 12:00 noon - 1:00 pm

Location: SciNet Conference Room, 256 McCaul Street, second floor, Toronto ON

If you intend to come, please enroll for pizza planning purposes.
