Monthly user meeting at SciNet, now virtual, with user discussion and a TechTalk. The topic on 11 Nov 2020 is "Modern C++".

Y. Meiron

Enrolled: 57;  Attended: 25.

TechTalk Title: Modern C++

Abstract: Is C++ better than Python? This is one of the many questions I will not give a straight answer to in this talk. I will discuss, however, the differences between these two popular programming languages, and what makes Modern C++ a very powerful tool in scientific computing. C++ has existed for four decades, but has gone through especially significant changes in the 2010s with the advent of the Standard C++11 and beyond. I will demonstrate some of the new language features, as well as the workflow and tools that make programming in C++ fun.
