The Petascale Computing Institute is a free week-long virtual High Performance Computing training event, organized by a number of the US supercomputing centers and SciNet, and will be held from August 19 to 23, 2019. GoalThe goal is to prepare attendees to be able to scale their computational codes to leadership-class computing systems. SciNet is one of the organizing partners, together with a number of the US supercomputing centres. AudienceThe content is targeted for individuals conducting research and scholarship in all disciplines, including graduate and undergraduate students, postdocs, faculty, researchers, scholars, educators, and practitioners in academia, industry and government agencies. The institute will be beneficial to research teams who are preparing to scale their codes to petascale-class resources, people who are working on parallel codes, or have a need to scale up computational codes and/or data analysis programs. Individuals who are current or pending users of large-scale HPC systems will benefit the most from this institute. AgendaBesides the presentation of the Keynote Speaker, Gordon Bell (an HPC Pioneer) on Man vs. Machine: The Challenge of Engineering Programs for HPC, there will be sessions on MPI, OpenMP, OpenACC, CUDA, HPC Python, Best Practices, Visualization, Code optimization and more. How To ParticipateParticipants may attend the institute at one of more than 20 Host Sites. At these sites, participants will be able to ask questions of the presenters via two-way video conferencing, receive training accounts on HPC systems, and receive support from knowledgeable staff. Seating at each site is limited, and registration will be handled on a first-come-first-served basis. SciNet is also one of the host sites where you can attend the two-way conference system with SciNet analysts to help you with the hands-on sessions (location: SciNet teaching room, 11th floor of the MaRS West Tower, 661 University Ave, Toronto, ON M5G 1M1). Hands-on exercises will be done on Blue Waters, the supercomputer at NCSA. The sessions will also be webcast on YouTube, but no training accounts will be provided. Participants must register to attend one of the Host Sites or to view the sessions on YouTube.
